John Anderson Hamburgers.

burgers... It was super nice outside the other day, so we thought the perfect thing to eat in nice hot sunny weather would be some burgers. We decided to go over to John Anderson Hamburgers (aka Johnny A's) for some of their tasty charcoal broiled burgers. This burger joint has been here for a pretty long time and is known for serving pretty good burgers. I decided to go with the home burger combo ($6.49 + tax), which also comes with fries and a drink. The difference between the home burger and the hamburger, is that the home burger has a 6 oz patty and the hamburger has a 4 oz patty. Both my friends went for the home banquet burger combo (~$7.69 + tax), where the burger has a 6 oz patty, bacon and cheese, and the combo also comes with fries and a drink. The burgers at John Anderson's are charcoal grilled and taste awesome. Although not the cheapest place, they are quite consistent with their burger quality. You can also get the usual toppings for your burger like ketchup, mayo, mustard, tomato and lettuce. Although, the lettuce doesn't seem very fresh, as it would be much better if they used fresh leafy lettuce instead of shredded ones. Considering, your paying nearly $10 for your burger combo, they should offer fresh leafy lettuce.John Anderson Hamburgers is a place where most people buy the burgers for takeout. You can eat your food there, but it is not particulary nice and there aren't actually real tables there. They do serve other food, but everybody comes here for the burgers usually. You can see the rest of their menu on their website. This burger joint is located in the plaza at 2832 Victoria Park Avenue, @ Victoria Park and Van Horne. It is open until 11 pm everyday, except for Friday and Saturday, when they are open until 1 am. There is also a location at Yonge and Finch (open 24 hours I think), but I would only recommend going to the Victoria Park/ Van Horne location. Also, they have delivery if you order $15 + tax, although I'm not sure of what area they will deliver to.

  2. Hey, Kenny. I have had burgers in both places. JA on Vanhorne at VicPark is better tasting. More friendly, too. Parking lot at JA's is not a hang out for a bunch of toughs. Easier to get in and out of the parking area. Space seems cleaner. Bigger menu selection, too.

  3. My mom used to work at the plaza and brought me home the souvlaki on a bun with extra sauce. I remember I loved it and was hooked from then on. It was opened by the father of a kid in my class in the early 80's. I've often thought about their souvlakis and I have never found one that compares. I've moved back into the neighbourhood and am hoping they are still there.
