Krispy Kreme- Day of Dozens Deal

Here is a pretty sweet BOGO deal for Krispy Kreme doughnuts! In the world of Krispy Kreme, December 12 is known as Day of the Dozens (12-12), an annual holiday celebration of doughnuts that began on December 12, 2012 (12-12-12).  On Day of the Dozens, when you purchase one dozen Original Glazed dougnuts, you get a second dozen free! Just show the coupon in this post at any Krispy Kreme Canada location this coming Saturday (Dec. 12) to get the deal. They also have some holiday flavours available right now including a chocolate filled santa doughnut, a red velvet cream cheese doughnut and a holiday sprinkles doughnut.  The holiday doughnuts are nice but the original Krispy Kremes will always be my favourite. Crystal Buffet.

$5 Buffet!!!... This is not a joke. Crystal Buffet opened in November and is offering Buy One Get One Free buffet from Monday to Wednesday for both lunch and dinner. Lunch is $9.99 and dinner is $16.99. Which means for lunch, 2 people the bill comes to... you guessed it! $11.29 including tax! So if that isn't enough to get you to go, I must admit the food wasn't terrible. Crystal Buffet like Mandarin, Dragon Pearl/Legend, King's Buffet, and the list goes on and on, all serve the same Chinese-Canadian food. Fried rice/ noodles, fried chicken, sushi (sans raw fish), california rolls, dim sum were all on par with any other buffet I've ever been to. And anyone who believes buffets are about food quality is really missing the point. Buffet is about quantity. So although I'm not a buffet connoisseur, the food was well... food! and the selection wasn't bad either. Every station was constantly being refilled and stocked. And for that price, it was well worth the trip. I actually paid more because we had 3 people in our group which meant we paid $20+tax. So the lesson here is to always go with an even number of people. // 22 Metropolitan Rd, Scarborough

Il Fornello.

Pizza Fichi
Il Fornello Tuesday Pizza Special!...  I was recently introduced to the tuesday $10 special for any of their pizzas and have been coming back regularly for the deal at the Bayview Village location in North York.  They have a large list of wood oven baked pizzas with a variety of toppings- normally ranging from $11-$17 each.  The one flavour that my friends and I regularly get is the Pizza Fichi, with tons of savoury and sweet toppings including mascarpone, prosciutto, figs, shaved grana padano cheese, honey and arugula.  That mascarpone base sauce is so damn good! Other pizzas featured here are the Pizza Prosciutto + the Pizza Gorgonzola.  The prosciutto pizza is covered with 2 giant strips of that tasty italian ham + artichoke hearts, black olives and peppers.  If you are looking for some INTENSE flavours, try the Pizza Gorgonzola, which is loaded with strong tasting Gorgonzola blue cheese and pears, caramelized onions + walnuts.  I would have preferred the cheese to be a little less strong as it masked some of the other awesome flavors.  Overall pizza tuesdays at Il Fornello is a great chance to taste their pizzas at an affordable $10/ pie.  They are really busy on these days, and do not take reservations on tuesdays because of this special.  Come early (6pm or earlier) and with small groups to avoid waits.

Wonderpho- Free PHO for Father's Day.

free pho!...  Wonderpho is a restaurant in North York that specializes in vietnamese food.  I found out from my friend, Jason, who also runs the restaurant, that they are offering a FREE pho for Dads on Father's Day (Sunday, June 16 2013)!!!  It's a nice casual place to go for lunch, as the restaurant has a more modern decor than the typical Pho restaurants in Toronto- the only place in T.O. that I have eaten Pho at an Outdoor Patio!  I went yesterday and had the Rare Beef + Beef Brisket Noodle Soup (Regular Size- $7.99 + tax/tip) along with some appetizers (half price from 3-5 pm!).  The pho is pretty good- with the soup being pretty light, if you are used to heavily flavoured soup bases.  Also had the Pork and Tiger Shrimp Spring Rolls (~$2-$3/ plate with the happy hour special), which are stuffed! I want to go back for more of these super crispy + tasty spring rolls!  Also must try their complimentary Taro Chips, thinly sliced and baked pieces of Taro!

Info for FREE Pho on Father's Day:
- Print or Show Coupon to recieve Free Regular size Pho for Dads on June 16, 2013 (Valid for tables of 2 or more with another full paying adult order)
- Add $2 to upsize to a Large size Pho

McDonald's Salads: Review + 50% off coupon.

mcd's!... good old McDonald's is holding another promotion, this time for their entree salads.  Click on the picture above, print off the coupon above (expires June 13, 2001) and grab one of their entree salads for 50% off (comes out to about $3.50 after taxes, regular price is about $6.79 + tax each). You can print as many off as you want.  They are running this promo for almost a month so its a great chance to grab a quick "healthy" meal (use less dressing for extra healthiness haha). When getting the salads make sure they give you all the extras that are supposed to come with each salad (ie dressing, extra packets of stuff) because they mess this up all the time or give you the wrong dressing for the salad you choose.

How do these salads taste/look?
Don't worry, I'm a big fan of Mickey D's, so once I heard the promo I went ahead and tried all 4 types of their salads yesterday.  All of the salad are quite small, I wouldn't call them entree size, but they are a good deal for $3.50 (regular price not worth it) considering each salad comes with a respectable sized piece of chicken (either crispy or grilled chicken).  Here's a quick review of each one...
1. Southwest Salad (Top Left)
The southwest salad is quite tasty as it is kinda like a mexican salad, with mixed greens, red onions and I also got quite bit of beans in mine as well.  They also give you a pack of nacho chips mix in along with the shredded nacho cheese and spicy southwest dressing (the typical minimally spicy chipotle flavour sauce available at most fast food places). + your choice of crispy or grilled chicken!
2. Spicy Thai Salad (Top Right)
The spicy thai is McD's asian style salad as they use wonton style chips and an asian sesame dressing.  When mixed together it tastes kinda sweet (not spicy at all). They also include the usual mixed greens along with some red peppers and carrots from what I remember. Not bad, especially if you like sweeter, honey garlic type asian flavours.  + your choice of crispy or grilled chicken!
3. Mighty Caeser Salad (Bottom Left)
WTF McDonald's, there is nothing mighty about this salad at all.  It is your typical ceaser salad  that comes with caeser dressing and a pack of croutons.  Nothing wrong with this salad, just that it's not mighty at all. It also comes with some small bacon pieces (not the bacon bits from street meat), cheese and your choice of crispy or grilled chicken.  However, this salad is the most unoriginal and least satisfying of the 4.  "WEAKSAUCE!" ..no pun intended lol
4. Tuscan Salad (Bottom Right)
The tuscan salad is in my opinion the best tasting salad that McD's has to offer.  I was quite impressed by the salad that came with mixed greens, grape tomatoes and cheese.  They also give you a pack of dried cranberries (aka craisins!) and pine nuts.  All of this mixed together with the Yogurt creamy garlic dressing is bommmmb! + your choice of crispy or grilled chicken

McDonald's has done quite well with this salad promotion, so go get them before the coupon expires on June 13, cause regular price at $6.79 + tax is not worth getting ever for a fast food salad. In addition, until first week of September 2011, Mcdonald's also has $1 any size soft drinks (XL largest) and $1 any size Iced Coffees (L largest, flavours: regular, caramel, vanilla-best one!).  The iced coffees are good for this price (don't waste your money at timmy's or starbucks if you just wanna get an iced coffee).

Harvey's 2 Original Burgers for $5.

burgers... Harvey's is currently holding a deal for their Original Burgers. Until May, 30 2010, you can grab 2 Original Burgers for $5 + tax (no coupon needed). I found this deal on RFD and apparently many locations are not advertising this, but if you ask them most places should honour this deal. I haven't been to Harvey's in awhile, but this is a pretty good deal considering how much bigger and better Harvey's burgers are compared to McDonald's (and you can load on the toppings!). Also: Harvey's free original burger day hasn't been advertised yet, but it should be coming soon (last year it was on May 24).

Baskin-Robbins 31 Cent Scoop Night.

free ice cream!... Tomorrow night (Wednesday April 28 2010), Baskin-Robbins is holding their annual 31 cent scoop night across Canada. It's going to be a nice sunny day tomorrow, so be sure to head over to a Baskin-Robbins after work or school (the deal runs from 5pm- 10 pm) and get some 31 cent scoops of ice cream (if you get a waffle cone, it's like $1 extra, but worthhh it!!!).

Last year, I went (2009 31 Cent Scoop Night Review) and depending on the location, you might run into a lineup. From my experience though, they are pretty good with trying to make sure everyone gets their 31 cent scoops.

Not sure what flavours to get?! I suggest: Jamoca Almond Fudge (lots of chocolate and nuts) or Raspberry Cheese Louise (chunks of actual cheesecake in icecream!).

For locations across Canada check out the Facebook Event for 31 Cent Scoop Night.

IKEA Meatball Deal.

swedish meatballs... If you've ever been to IKEA, you know that they make shopping for furniture a fun experience with their cool displays and even a full restaurant at each location. I just went to IKEA in North York to check out some beds, and also to check out a deal on meatballs that my friend Hugh has been talking about for awhile.

You can get a plate of 15 Swedish meatballs along with mashed potatoes or fries (w/ free gravy and cranberry sauce) for $2.99! . The meatballs are actually really good and this meal usually cost $5.99. You can get this meatball meal on Mondays and Tuesdays, anytime after 5 pm (the restaurant closes at 8 pm). The deal will be running until December 31, 2009.

Hugh and I both went and we each got one of the $2.99 meatball combos with mash potatoes. In addition to this, we each also got garlic bread ($0.50/ piece). The meatballs taste especially good with the cranberry sauce. The meatballs are pretty small, but 15 of them + mash potatoes or fries will definitely fill the average person up. Unfortunately we're not really average and we ended up going back to IKEA for more within 15 minutes of leaving.lol. If you want to get a soft drink, they are $1 with unlimited refills, or you can be really cheap and just ask them for a glass of water (or bring your own glass haha) as they have self serve soft drink stations.

Taco Bell 5 Tacos Deal.

tacos... I just caught the new commercial for the new deal that Taco Bell is running. Until September 6, 2009, you can get 5 Tacos (soft or hard) for $3.99. They are running these commercials like non stop on TV, so I had to post this. This works out to $0.80/ taco compared to the usual $1.29 you have to pay for them. Once this deal runs out, I'll definitley be going back to their value menu though.lol.

Quiznos Torpedo Sub Coupon.

torpedo coupon... This is a coupon for a free Torpedo sub at Quiznos (previous review of Torpedoes), with the purchase of any Regular or Large sandwich and a 20 oz Coca-Cola product. It isn't that good of a deal, but if you happen to be going to Quizno's anyways, might as well print this out and get a free Torpedo sub. The deal expires August 31, 2009. Click on the picture or Click here for the printable coupon.

subway deal... My buddy from McMaster, Mo, sent me this deal that is happening today (July 30, 2009, 11 am- 8 pm). The Subway at Eastern Ave and Leslie St is offering a free FOOTLONG if you buy any FOOTLONG at regular price + Medium 21 Oz Drink. Tealish- Free Iced Tea.

tea... I was chilling at my friend Roger's place and picked up a NOW free newspaper (July 2009 edition) that he had. As i was looking through it, I came across an advertisement for a place called Tealish. You can bring the ad in and get one FREE drink from their new iced tea menu. Some of my other friends have been to this place and they specialize in different types of loose leaf tea. So, if you wanna try out one of their free iced teas, pick up one of these NOW newspapers in those boxes by bus stops and bring the ad in. There is also no expiration date on the ad/ coupon, so take advantage of this if you are in the area.

Second Cup 99¢ Vanilla Yogurt Smoothie.

smoothies... As we continue through the summer, Second Cup is running a promotion to promote its new Vanilla Yogurt Smoothies. Between July 13-17, 2009, you can buy a small Vanilla Yogurt Smoothie for $0.99 + tax. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't comment on how it tastes, but this would definitely be one of the rare times I may pay for these regularly over priced drinks. According to their website, you can have this smoothie plain, or add flavour shots such as chocolate, strawberry puree or mixed berry puree (extra charge for flavour shots).

Metro Rotisserie Chicken Deal.

rotisserie chicken... If you are hungry, one of the best deals for takeout is the Rotisserie Chicken Deal that they have at Metro Supermarkets. You can find this in the takeout section, which is usually right by the deli where cold cuts are served.

There are different combos that you can get, but the one I always get is the $10.99 Rotisserie Chicken Combo which includes:

  • 1 Whole Rotisserie Chicken
  • 1 Box of Large box of Potato Wedges (the box is pretty damn big!)
  • 1 box of salad (ex. coleslaw, potato salad, macaroni salad, mac and cheese salad)

This deal is suitable for 3-4 people, but if you eat a lot like me and my friends, definitely share this between 2 people and you will both be super satisfied. Another good tip when getting this deal is to request switching the potato wedges for rice as their boxes of rice are huge (they aren't supposed to do this, but depending on the location, some employees will hook you up!). When eating the chicken, I recommend using Diana's BBQ sauce as well.mmm. I usually go to the location at Don Mills Centre (Don Mills/ Lawrence) or Bayview/ York Mills, but there are plenty of locations around Toronto.

Orange Julius- Free Smoothie.

free light smoothie... There was a previous Orange Julius free smoothie coupon that expired, but on June 19, they are once again offering FREE 20 oz. Light Smoothies, as long as you print out the coupon. This is perfect for the hot summer weather we're starting to get in Toronto. You can try 3 different flavours: Strawberry Delight, Tropical Sunlight, or Berry-Pom Twilight. I would love to hear feedback on your experiences on getting a free smoothie!

Where is Orange Julius?!
I'm sure many of you haven't even heard of this place...
There are three Orange Julius locations in Toronto which are all attached to Dairy Queen stores (OJ is owned by DQ).
  1. In Eaton Centre, across from American Eagle
  2. In the Dragon City building in China Town (@Spadina/Dundas)
  3. By the Rogers Centre

Harvey's Free Original Burger.

free burger... Harvey's is running a promo for their 50th birthday. For every burger you buy (any kind), you will receive a coupon for a FREE original burger on your next visit- kind of like the Wendy's FREE burger deal. I saw my friend with one of these free coupons, and it is just printed on a receipt (according to the redflagdeals thread, the free coupon receipt automatically gets printed out for any burger purchases, including hot dogs).
  • The coupons cannot be used on the same day (got to wait at least 1 day) and they expire within 3 weeks (the entire promo runs until August 2, 2009).
  • Make sure you get a free burger coupon for each burger you buy, even if they are bought together- ie. if you buy 3 burgers, make sure you get 3 free burger coupons

McDonald's $1 Soft Drinks.

summer drink deal... I went to McDonald's to grab a quick bite and at all the cash registers, they are advertising their current soft drink promotion. For the entire summer (until Aug. 23, 2009), you can get any size soft drinks for $1. This is a great deal for those thirsty days in the summer, since McDonald's is everywhere and many are even 24 hours. McDonald's is also one of the only fast food places that gives out free refills, so this makes it even better. You could probably go to a supermarket and get drinks for cheaper, but the convenience of McDonald's makes this a good deal.

Baskin Robbins $0.31 Scoop Review.

ice cream... We went to Baskin Robbins' $0.31 scoop day about 2 weeks ago. It was deal we couldn't afford to miss. The deal ended at 10 pm that night, and we cut it close, going to the York Mills/Bayview Baskin Robbins at 9:30 pm. The place was LIVE, the lineup was miles deep, and by miles, I mean about 30 people in line. We took our spots at the end of the line and within 5 minutes a Baskin Robbins employee came out to tell us that noone else could line up, but everyone currently in line would recieve their super cheap ice cream. It felt like the whole community had come out to enjoy the night with some tasty ice cream. You can see in the pictures the lineup that formed outside of Baskin Robbins.
Although we were ensured by the store employee that we would receive our ice cream, we entered the store (after a 20 minute wait in line) with another dilemma... We didn't know which scoops to pick from the wide selection. There was a maximum of 3 scoops, so we felt like we had no choice but to get all 3 scoops, since it was so cheap and very seldom would any of us get 3 full scoops at regular price from Baskin Robbins. In addition to this, we all got waffle cones (I know... $1 extra, but so good!).
Ice Cream Scoop Selection:
  • Me (Hubert): Jamoca Almond Fudge, Gold Medal Ribbon and some cheescake flavour
  • Daniel (same guy who was in the 72 oz Steak Challenge): Apple Refreshment (mint + green apple sorbet), Cherry Jubilee and some Pecan/Caramel Flavour
  • Florence: raspberry cheese louise x 2

Comments on the Ice Cream by myself and 3 friends (Florence, Daniel, Hugh)
Hubert: "Jamoca Almond Fudge and Gold Medal Ribbons are popular flavours, and sooo good...soo chocolately..so nutty"
Daniel: "Apple Refreshment tastes mostly like mint not much apple, it was alright, not that great, other sorbets are better"
Florence: "Apple Refreshment tastes like toothpaste, bleh!"
Hubert: "Agreed, lots of toothpaste taste, but if you really like that kinda mint, its good"
Florence: "Raspberry Cheese Louise is the best! It has cheesecake bits in it and a raspberry ribbon swirl...and it is made of frozen yogurt, so it is a lower calorie option!"
Hugh: "I saw the lineup and I went to Rich Tree instead, should of listened to Hubert and waited =("
Overall, we all had a good time coming out to grab some cheap ice cream. It was a nice spring night and even though the lineup looked long, it wasn't that bad, as the taste of success was just that much sweeter when we recieved our icecream. As you can see in the picture, the three of us saluted Baskin Robbins by raising our ice creams!

Tip: When getting ice cream at Baskin Robbins, you should ask for a free sample of different ice creams, as they these samples are always available. They will give you a little spoon to taste the ice cream, and the size of the spoon is perfect for eating the icecream out of the cone (normal or waffle), especially when trying to isolate things like cheescake chunks.

Pizza Nova- $3.99 Medium Pepperoni.

cheap pizza... Pizza Nova is offering Medium Pepperoni Pizzas fro $3.99 next tuesday between 11 AM- 9 PM (May 12, 2009). They hold this promotion once each year and for the past couple years I have grabbed many pizzas during this day. They are also donating $1.00 from each pizza to charity, which is great, while you can enjoy some tasty Pizza Nova pizza, which is the best pizza from a chain type pizza place as previously reviewed (don't waste your time at Pizza Pizza). From my past experience, lineups vary by location, but you usually dont' have to wait long. They say maximum 2 per person, but since the promotion is lasting from 11 AM- 9 PM, there is alway time to go back and get more to stock up on haha.

Last year I think I grabbed about 3-4 for myself and was definitely stuffed. If they had this year round, I could have just ate these pizzas to train for the 72 Oz Steak Challenge.

I usually go to either the Don Mills/ York Mills or Yonge/ Lawrence Locations. The Don Mills/ York Mills location seemed to have less of a lineup in the past couple years.
